Dialysis

Dialysis is a life-saving medical procedure for individuals with kidney failure. It involves using a specialized machine to filter waste, toxins, and excess fluids from the bloodstream, effectively replicating the essential.

Dialysis is a life-saving medical procedure that performs the functions of healthy kidneys when they fail, filtering waste, excess fluids, and toxins from the blood. It’s vital for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or acute kidney injury. There are two main types: Hemodialysis: Blood is cleaned via a machine (dialyzer) 3–4 times weekly. Peritoneal Dialysis: Uses the abdomen’s lining to filter blood daily at home. Dialysis requires vascular access (fistula/graft) or a catheter. While it extends life, long-term risks include infections, anemia, and bone disease. It’s often a bridge to kidney transplantation.
